Build a bed is a challenge. So far I have build six.
Vasileios, the start
Around 2005 it was time for Vasileios to get a proper bed. Buy or build? Build!
I don’t have any photos from that time, but I tried to take some now. 2025 and still there.
Raised bed, with lots of storage under it.
and the middle section is open shelf to use them as a ladder. He was so little then.
The design is mine, the parts were cut in Praktiker, I can’t recall the price.
Girls’ room (2013)
In 2013 we decided that girls should have proper bed, closets, desks and all. Inspiration from every where. The design too me a couple of months, research and planning. This time was cut melamine in lumber yard. Much better prices than DIY store. I think it was around 1500 euros at the time for all of them. Photos are from 2013.
It took me and Elena four or five days to finish all three of them. It is 2025 and the girls still sleep on them. They don’t like them any more. But it’s ok. Still rock solid.
Vasileios again
In 2019 Vasileios became a university student. In Florina. He need some furniture and a bed. He asked me to build at least the bed. Designed in 5 days. Melamine from the lumber yard again. Can’t recall the cost, but totally under 1000 euros. The preparation was done in our balcony. Aggela was a great help with edge banding. Most of the pieces did not fit in the elevator, so I had to carry them to the 3rd floor from the stair (Move #1). After edge banding, drilling etc, carried the pieces down 3 floors to the car (Move #2). Drove to Florina and there with Vasileios’ help carried them to the apt (Thank God 1rst floor Move #3). I assembled everything with a tiny 3.6V driver I bought from Praktiker just for fun, because it was for 10 euros.
Still available but now for 19.99. The battery died 20 screws before finishing. The power to the apt was not connected yet, so I had to finish the job by hand.
What about me?
In 2020 our professionally build bed was about to collapse, so… I finally build a bed for us!
Rock solid! Still sleeping on that and no sound. Cost, around 100 euros. The mattress we put in that at the time was 16 times the cost of the bed.
Everyone in our home sleeps in a bed made be me 🙂
