Last night we had a nice rain, but the rain gauge was not measuring any rain. Finally at midnight I went out to check it.
The funnels were gone! Wind, birds, hot glue failure? Do not know. I found the missing parts in the parking area dirty and not worthy to salvage. So after morning shift today, I started building a better version.
I used some 8mm MDf to make a base block. The lower part of a vitamins tube mounted to the base to act as mounting point for lower funner. I secured it with two screws and lots of hot glue to create a base for the drainage straw. After hot glue dried, I countersink from the top to make it drain the water better.
The lower funnel mounts/screws/friction fix to the vitamin tube and I was ready for the installation.
Rain gauge restored! This time I tied the lower funnel with string also, so in case it is blown away it want fall to the building’s parking area.
What is noticed, it that the top of the box, even primed, has started breaking down from moisture. In the summer I will do upgrades.
